The 3M Bantam C Brockville Angels were on the road this weekend in Montreal, Quebec to participate in the 2013 Can-Am Challenge Cup.

The girls dominated the play with 23 shots on goal. The Lightning had three shots against Brockville goalie, Samantha Tremblay. 3-0 final

Game two the girls played Phoenix Trois Lacs. With only 8 skaters and a goalie, Phoenix played a very defensive game boxing in their goalie. The girls worked extremely hard in the first period but could not slip the puck through the heavily congested net. Late in the second, Rebecca Carr takes a pass from Vanessa Richards and Bailey McCaffrey to put the girls on the board. The third period the girls figured out how to get the puck to the net. Vanessa Richards scored a beautiful unassisted goal a minute in. Libby Cameron scored from Alex Brett and Katie Newman, followed by another beautiful goal by Vanessa Richards from Rebecca Carr. 4-0 Final

Saturday, the tournament held a skills competition for all of the teams involved. Samantha Tremblay proved she was the best Goalie in the tournament in the shoot out competition. Sam kept out all twelve goals earning her a perfect record.

Rebecca Carr was no match for the other goalies she won the shoot out competition in the first round with goals each of the other teams goalies.

The girls relay team consisting of Alex Brett, Cassie McCaffrey, Libby Cameron and Bailey McCaffrey proved no competition to the other teams. Libby got the girls off to a good start from the line passing to Cassie McCaffrey just ahead of the East Coast Wizards, Cassie stayed strong on her feet and pulled away from a near catastrophe as the Wizards skater went down in the corner, with a handy lead at the line Cassie passed the stick to her cousin Bailey McCaffrey who took the girls further into the lead, and Alex Brett took the girls home without letting up until the finish.

Shortly after the skills competition the girls hit the ice to play the East Coast Wizards from Massachusetts. The dominant Angels won their game handily against the Wizards 7-3. In the first period Rebecca Carr got the ball rolling with a pass from Haleigh Baker, Alex Brett scored from Cassie McCaffrey and Libby Cameron to make it two nothing. The second period was a busy one for the 3M Angels. Rebecca Carr scored two, and Cassie McCaffrey, Vanessa Richards and Libby Cameron each added one to the board with assists from Cassie McCaffrey Libby Cameron, Mackenzie Richards, Rebecca Carr, Vanessa Richards, and Alyssa Blakely. A final goal in the third by Rebecca Carr from Mackenzie Richards sealed the fate of the team against the East Coast Wizrds with a 7-3 final.
The Brockville 3M Angels played their A Final in the Richard division against the East Coast Wizards. A few minutes into the first period the Haleigh Baker got the girls on the board with the help of Cassandra McCaffrey. The second period was all Wizards. They showed up to win this game after a devastating loss the day before. Samantha Tremblay stood on her head facing 22 shots on net. The Wizards scored three huge goals in the second to put the Angels down 3-1. Vanessa Richards pokes one in the net from Mackenzie Richards half way through the third but it just wasn’t enough. The Angels lost to the East Coast Wizards 4-2 and brought home the silver medal.

A great time was had by all! The girls met new friends back at the hotel and also took the opportunity to meet Pierre Bouchard from the Montreal Canadiens who shared with us his 5 Stanley Cup Rings.
